A beginner needs a good starter racquet (lightweight, flexible), a tube of nylon shuttlecocks, a comfortable pair of badminton shoes with non-marking soles, and a proper grip. Badminton-specific shoes are important to prevent injury on court. We stock all beginner essentials at Vizonsportz.
Feather shuttlecocks offer better flight accuracy and are used in professional and tournament play. Nylon (plastic) shuttlecocks are more durable, cost-effective, and ideal for beginners and practice sessions. For competitive training, we recommend feather shuttlecocks.
Store your racquet in its cover when not in use to protect the frame and strings. Avoid exposing it to extreme heat or moisture. Restring your racquet regularly based on usage — competitive players typically restring every 1–3 months. Keep the grip clean and replace it when it becomes worn or slippery.
A match is played as best of 3 games, with each game going to 21 points. A point is scored on every rally (rally point system). At 20-all, a 2-point lead is needed to win. At 29-all, the first to reach 30 wins. The shuttle must land within the opponent’s court boundary. Serves must be hit diagonally and below the server’s waist.

In singles, the long service line is the back boundary line, and the side tramlines are out. In doubles, the side tramlines are in play, but the short service line is used for serves.
